Yoga Center What Makes An Iyengar Yoga Instructor Unique?
Separator Instructor

Because the Iyengar method pays close attention to body alignment, special sequencing of poses, and the use of props to make yoga accessible to virtually everyone, a substantial amount of training is required on the part of instructors. Teacher training can be pursued at institutes nationally and internationally.

To attain the first level of Iyengar yoga certification is a minimum of 3 years of intensive training under a senior teacher and includes two different assessments which last three days each and include a demonstrated practice of asana, a written exam and demonstrated teaching skills. (Most instructors take much longer to complete this process.) Even so, in the Iyengar method, teacher training is never done! There are five degrees of teacher certification under Iynaus and within each degree, there are several levels. Being an Iyengar yoga instructor is a life-long dedication which includes much travel and expense.

Although there are many teachers who say they have been influenced by the Iyengar method, to be an instructor at MYC, the instructor must be in on-going training with a senior Iyengar teacher and pursuing Iyengar certification. As mentioned earlier, the Iyengar certification is a very rigorous never ending process!
